Our advisor's favorite

My personal highlight is setting the alarm before dawn and hiking to the summit of Pic N’Ga. The climb is fairly steep, but reaching the top as the sun rises is an unforgettable experience. Below, the colours of Kuto and Kanuméra Bays slowly come to life, shifting from soft pastel pinks to brilliant lagoon blues. The panoramic 360-degree views are truly spectacular and well worth the early start.

Day 1 Dawn from the island’s highest point

Begin your exploration of this Pacific gem with a sunrise hike up Pic N’Ga. Make sure you wear sturdy trainers, as the climb is steep, but the reward is well worth the effort. From the summit, 262 metres above sea level, you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views across the bays and surrounding islets.

A well-earned reward!

Head to the stunning Upi Bay and step aboard a traditional outrigger canoe. Sit back and let the gentle rhythm of the water carry you through picture-perfect scenery.

At the end of the crossing, a short walk beneath the columnar pines leads to the highlight of the experience: a well-earned swim in the Natural Pool at Oro Bay, a vast natural aquarium. Put on your mask and snorkel to discover colourful coral and tropical fish in exceptionally clear water.

Feeling peckish ?

Enjoy a well-earned lunch at Le Kougny, with your feet in the sand overlooking Oro Bay. Afterwards, take time to relax with a short nap in the shade on this idyllic beach.

A mystical afternoon

To end the day on a high note, visit two of the island’s must-see sites: the Grotte de la Troisième and Oumagne Cave, also known as Queen Hortense’s Cave. Hidden within lush tropical vegetation, these striking caves are mystical, sacred places steeped in local history and legend.

Good to know:

Experienced divers can also scuba dive in the Grotte de la Troisième. To arrange the dive, contact Kunie Scuba Center, the Isle of Pines’ local diving centre.

Day 2 A Robinson Crusoe escape on the islets

Set off from the stunning Kanuméra Bay for a full day of relaxation and exploration among the lagoon’s tiny islets.

Let a local guide take you to Brush Island, named for its distinctive hairbrush-like shape created by its columnar pines, and to Moro Islet. Be sure to bring your mask and snorkel, as the surrounding waters offer exceptional marine life, including turtles and rays.

An island feast: To make the most of the experience, enjoy an unforgettable meal served directly on the islet. Grilled lobster and freshly caught fish are on the menu, best savoured with your feet in the soft white sand and turquoise waters stretching out before you.

The perfect way to end a weekend in paradise.
