The American Chapel of Plum (Jeanne d'Arc) was built during the Second World War and remains today as one of the vestiges of the American presence in New Caledonia!
Located in Plum, this chapel was built in the 1940s at a time when the United States was at the forefront of the war.
Back to one of the vestiges of the American presence in New Caledonia! This sober building built in light materials (wood), without bells or frills is one of the last historical witnesses of the Pacific war in New Caledonia.
At the bottom of the building, there is an old cross and a large statue of Joan of Arc. The “Maid of Orleans”, a symbol of purity and military courage, will have inspired Americans exiled far from home during the Pacific War.
The chapel has been a listed site since 2006 and is now closed to visitors.
