Association Bwara Tortues Marines, La Roche Percée, BP 4211, 98870 Bourail
The Bwärä Marine Turtle association works to protect turtles and their nesting sites on the Bourail coast.
The beaches of Bourail, La Roche Percée and Turtle Bay are the main nesting sites for New Caledonia's loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) and the second largest site in the South Pacific. During the egg laying and hatching season (November to May), the Bwärä Marine Turtle association makes sure the turtles are protected. Its members ensure the females and babies are undisturbed, which is essential to their survival. Eco-guards also collect useful information on the turtle population.

The public can speak to the Bwärä team at the entrance to La Roche Percée, where there is a 7-panel educational display about the world's sea turtles, in particular the loggerhead turtles that come to lay their eggs on Bourail's beaches. The association also organises excursions for schools and leisure centres.

You can show your support by buying a T-shirt, becoming a member or making a donation on the website www.bwara.nc.

From November to mid-May, the exhibition at the entrance to La Roche Percée is open every day from 7 to 11 am and on Monday and Saturday afternoons from 1 to 4 pm.
