Green Island

Île Verte, 98870 Bourail
Located in the heart of the western coastal region, Green Island (Île Verte) is a small island in New Caledonia's lagoon listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It’s a real haven of peace and quiet, much loved by sailors for its stunning scenery.
Green Island is a nature reserve just a few minutes by boat from La Roche Percée and Nessadiou. Much of the island is out of bounds to visitors, as it is home to an important dry forest with many species of seabirds. The seabed and the underwater fauna in the area contribute to its popularity, making it a unique and precious jewel. Whether you prefer diving or sailing, you’ll have a chance to see some of the many species protected by the island’s marine reserve status, like green turtles and dugongs. Green Island is also symbolic to the locals and considered a taboo place by the region’s sea clans.
A number of the region's service providers offer water-based and air-based activities that allow visitors to discover or rediscover the island’s wild beauty and the surrounding lagoon’s many shades of blue.
